Be Satisfied with What You Have
Matthew 6:19-21 - Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
What does this scripture mean to you? You’re watching TV and the commercial advertises the latest gadget. You had no intention previously of buying it and it is something you don’t need even though you convinced yourself that you cannot do without it.
You know you can’t afford it but you convinced yourself that you simply have to have it. You purchase it, use it for a few days and then it sits. You see your neighbor has these wonderful things and you must have the same thing only better even though the bible says not to covet or want what your neighbors have. Just look around your house and see how many must have items you bought only to let them sit once the newness has rubbed off.
You are ok until the next great thing that you cannot do without comes along and then you start all over again. You have money but you must have more money. Having more does not make you happier, contrary to what the world says.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s nice to have things and Our Father wants us to have nice things but why do we, myself included have to store up so much stuff or treasures here on earth. As they say you can’t take it with you although some people might try. Once we leave this body, all those things will be left for our loved ones to fight over. I can’t tell you how many times I have seen it once someone goes home to be with Our Lord, people are fighting over their possessions.
Why can’t we be satisfied with what we have? A simple person is a happy person. In Philippians 4:11 Paul states that he will be happy no matter what the circumstances. Can you honestly say that you will be happy with less?
What we need to do is Keep God First and store up treasures in heaven for ourselves like good works, Love, Kindness and faith. If by chance that God sees fit to bless us, we should be a Blessing to others.
Stop storing up so many treasures on earth and begin to store up treasures in heaven.
